4/9/09: Researchers are participating in a new nationwide study that will test an experimental treatment to target the source of the disease. The experimental drug may block a critical pathway in AD that causes damage to the nerve cells in the brain. Participants will receive either the active study drug or placebo (inactive pill). All participants will be monitored carefully by a team of doctors and nurses at the research clinic throughout the study.
4/22/09: Dr. James Brewer and the UCSD ADRC are conducting a study on a new investigational drug, bapineuzumab, to determine whether it is safe, well-tolerated and effective in Alzheimer’s disease. This medication is thought to remove amyloid from the body. Participants will have a 60% chance of receiving the drug.
